Last time we gave a basic overview of gardening and presented some basic information you will need to know before you can become a serious gardener. Now we will continue with a look at seets, pots, and the elements they adhere to, as well as getting the ellusive Gardening Moghancement.
Gardening Moghancement
A Gardening Moghancement is one which improves your gardening results by a) reducing the chances of plants withering while gardening, b) lengthening the time you have to plant crystals and harvest, and possibly c) increasing the yield of your harvests.
The Gardening Moghancement is actually a pretty difficult one to get. Most furniture items that you will get will wind up giving you completely the wrong elements for Gardening to be the dominant Moghancement. You are going to find that many furniture items add Fishing Moghancement with a stronger elemental strength than those which add Gardening. As such, it is often advisable to only place Gardening Moghancement items in your Mog House if it is what you are going after.
The following items give Gardening Moghancement:
Item |
Storage |
Elemental Strength |
Notes: |
Tarutaru Desk |
2 |
4 Earth |
Level 38 woodworking craft, or bought from AH. A bit overpriced, IMHO. |
Workbench |
1 |
6 Earth |
Level 7 woodworking, buy at AH, or buy from Woodworking Guild in Sand'Oria. Simple, and effective. I recommend it. |
Maple Table |
1 |
8 Earth |
Level 16 woodworking, buy at AH, or buy from Woodworking Guild in Sand'Oria. Also simple and quite effective, however price difference may not always be worth the extra 2 earth strength. |
Oak Table |
1 |
10 Earth |
Level 40 woodworking, buy at AH, or buy from furniture NPC in Sand'Oria. This is rather pricey, and not as worth it for the 10 earth strength unless you can craft it yourself. For the same price, you should be able to fill your Mog House with Workbenches. |
Holiday Trees |
1 |
2 Water |
Purchased from bazaars or obtained in the 2004 Starlight Celebration. |
The Holiday Trees are actually quite special Moghancement items. They have water strength, but they increase Gardening Moghancement. All the other items have earth strength. While it is just a theory at the moment, people think this will turn out helping your gardening yield results in the long run. As such, the Holiday Trees will probably become a hot ticket items as time goes on.
Note that you cannot get more than one Moghancement, and if you do not have Gardening Moghancement you will not reap the benefits of any of these items in your Mog House. Also note that, the stronger your dominant elemental energy is (it should be earth for Gardening) the better results you will get in your harvests.
Seeds, Plants, Pots and their Elemental Affinity
As we will discover in the next article in this series, the elemental affinity of the pots and the plants we are growing plays a big role in what you ultimately harvest. So before we examine the growing process, let's learn the elemental affinity of everything we will be dealing with.

Next time
Now that we know the basic elements of everything involved, and what furniture to get for our Gardening Moghancement, we are ready to learn the fine art of planting and feeding for crop. Stay tuned...
Obtaining these seeds and plants
One thing I'd like to see in this guide is where you can get all the plants. I know that various saplings drop many of the seeds, and that you can get cactus stems from the sabotenders (I levelled on those in Quicksand Caves). But where do you get tree saplings and cuttings?
From AH, Silly!
You get them from the AH, duh!
But seriously, the cuttings drop from all manner of Goobbues. The saplings are then grown from the cuttings.
I have heard that growing saplings from cuttings is the most reliable way to earn money from gardening, but I have not tried to myself.
