FF1 and FF11 online

For some reason it just reminds me of FF1. Dose anyone else think this?

.//hack

I honestly haven't played FFI myself. Back in those days, I never liked RPGs because they had so much reading and such little action. The first RPG I liked was Ys books I & II for the TurboGraphics-CD (which I played non-stop and beat in one weekend!) So I really don't know how close FFXI is to FFI.

But I will say, having played and loved the .//hack series, FFXI is almost exactly like .//hack. Of course, that is to be expected: .//hack is intended to simulate a MMORPG. Plus, .//hack came out in Japan after FFXI, so it would probably be more correct to say that .//hack is almost exactly like FFXI ;-)

Anyway, after playing through the dot hack games and suffering from withdrawl once they were over, I was very happy to see how close FFXI was in terms of gameplay to them.

PS2 guys,,, sheesh

I had no idea what this was. I searched everywhere and all I could find out was some Manga series and Anime that was on Cartoon Network late-night.

Then I found the games on EB World... and they were for the PS2! Doh!

.//hack Part 2

Oh yes I have to agree with you sam. I got .//hack tihs last X-Mas after watch .hack//sign.BTW the series is great.^^ I have to say even if I have only played Part One and Two of .//hack if I never played them I probley wouldnt be very good at FFXI.

The deal with dot hack

Getting through the whole series is a bit of a chore, honestly. By the end of the 3rd game you are way ready for it to be over. The series is quite a bit tedious.

It is an incredible simulation of a typical MMORPG, and the fact you can keep your characters and stuff between games is really fun. But the areas and dungeons are sooooo repetitive it just ain't funny. By the 200th dungeon that is just like every other dungeon but with a blood/castle/jungle layer of paint on it rolls by you are ready to claw your eyes out.

That being said, in spite of its flaws, I really did enjoy the series. Sure, it was just a big marketting scheme to get us to spend our hard earned dough on dot hack crap, but the games weren't half bad.

Oh, and .... "SPINY APPLE!"

.hack Mutation

Is it just me or was it relly easy. I mean real easy i beat it on day>< And if thats so I'll wait to buy part 3 and 4 at the same time.

1st easy.... except for Skeith... that bastard

Yes, the first game was pretty easy and was over very quickly (it was only like a 12 hour game tops). The final battle was a royal pain if you dont know what to do (and still hard even if you do know what to do).

Getting the extra dungeon and boss battle after you beat the game extends things a bit. And levelling up your characters for the next game extends it a lot more.

The second game is probably twice or three times as long. It really feels more like a fully-fleshed-out game (unlike part 1). The third game is more of the same, and, by the end, you're ready for it to be over.

The fourth game is definitely worth it if you've already invested a lot of time playing the first three. The story doesn't come to a very clear conclusion though, which is a tad disappointing. But the gameplay REALLY starts getting good in the third and fourth games (by then, you've learned all matter of neat things to do with armor swapping and weapon/monster combos... the game almost turns into a real time strategy game at that point ;-)

All told, if you plan on just getting the basics out of the four games, you're looking at maybe 120 hours. If you go back and unlock everything and get as many items as you can you're looking at 160-200 hours of gameplay.

SKEITH!!!

OMFG I HATED THAT RETARD!!! >< TOOK ME HOURS TO LVL UP JUST TO BEAT HIM. AND ELK WOULDNT HEAL THE BASTARD!><

Skeith players in FFXI

I have seen at least one person with a variation of that name in FFXI. I was wondering where the name came from.

Job structure? Perhaps...

I'll admit the job structure is very close: Fighter/Knight is basically just WAR, he's a tank pure and simple. Black Belt/Master is essentially any one of the damage dealers (primarily MNK, I'd say). Thief/Ninja is probably closer to just plain ol' vanilla THF in FFXI- The Ninja in FFXI is a more of a tank than a Ninja should be ;-) Then the mages are essentially the same, Red Mage (RDM), White Mage (WHM), and Black Mage (BLM).

And the setting is more fantasy like FFI (unlike EVERY OTHER FF GAME SINCE). So, yeah, it's more like FFI in that respect too.

In most every other respect, I'd say it's a stark departure. Graphics, obviously (duh, they are separated by almost 20 years ;-) but the gameplay is quite different. Battles are still turn-based, but they are automatic turn based and feel very real time. The group dynamic of MMORPGs is something else as well.

But yeah, I'd say the jobs were pretty much ripped from FFI without a doubt. Then again, FFI had the best job structure of all of them (except for maybe FF5 ;-) so if it ain't broke, why fix it?
