So I start playing in Windhurst two nights ago. Sam and I went out for my first pouncing lesson. It was so much fun. I killed tons of Mandys, Crows, Crawlers, and a couple Yags. Within the two hours we played I moved up to level five.

Last night I played again, but no Maior to be found. So I walked around the city, checked out the guilds. I only saw the bone working and weavers guilds. Personally I'd like to be a Blacksmith or Alchemist. I'm not sure if these trades are in Windhurst or not.

I'd like to do some quests, since I know this is how you get fame and money, but I really have no clue what to do or where to get what. Valsery says I should pick-up the FFXI book to help me out. It would tell me what quest needs what, plus ideas on where to go. Maybe I will pick it up.

Meanwhile I decided to level up outside of Windy. I was killing Mandys left and right when a guy came over and asked to power level with me. I agreed and we went out. It was a great time and I took on some big Yags. Unfortunately I died three times during the night. Also, the guy kept hitting on me. I know you guys said Mithras were considered fodder for male interests, and I agree with you. Nonetheless I played along and let him think I was a girl...turns out he gave me 1000g for the evening and I went up to level 6. Not bad...though after going up 5 levels in two hours it felt really slow. Dying didn't help either. Moral of the story: I've become an FFXI whore. Heh, my name (Meretrix) does mean 'prostitute' in Latin.

After that I was completely tired and went to the Auction House to sell my wares. I've had a couple things up for over 24 hours and they haven't sold. I added five more last night. I don't know if my prices are wrong or what. I look at the bid history for one small rabbit pelt and it's selling for 50g, I look at the one below it and that ones going for 400g. *shrug* They're exactly the same.

Anyway, I decided to buy a shield with my newfound money and was checking prices. I found one for 900g with +2 defense. I started bidding at 500g. Then, when I went back and bid 600g I won the shild. But not the same one! Turns out I had clicked above the one I wanted and got a +1 shield instead and overbid by 200g. I slapped myself in the head for that one.

*sigh* I really am a noob.

Dont worry, youll get it

It takes a while, but Sam says you're making better progress then most. Sure wish I was powerlevelled to 9 (-:

Grats on choosing Mithra THF! I really enjoyed mine. One bit of warning, being THF can be lonely. People really don't appreciate the THF until the 30s or so (when you can do SATA, read more here) Once they see a SATA work, the THF becomes godlike in their eyes.

Power to yez...

Okay, some comments for you ;-)

First of all, so anyone who is wondering knows, I levelled WHM up to level 7 so I could sub it with my MNK(30) to help him out the first night. So, yes, he got a bit of powerlevelling boost with me playing with him ;-)

Second of all, no, the are no smithing or alchemist guilds in Windhurst. Not every guild is in enery town, and Windhurst doesn't have those. There is a Goldsmithing guild in Mhaura, which is the closest one, but none in Windhurst proper.

Third, don't buy a strategy guide. Read my FAQ about it to see why I think they are a bad idea...

Instead, use sites like Allakhazam for their quest & mission guides. Or, just go to GameFaqs and print yourself out a copy of the quest guide there. Trust me, the SGs are bad news...

Fourthly, what you guys did wasn't powerlevelling. It was partying. There really isn't anything wrong with it, in fact, it's the one things you'll need to learn how to do to progress in the game. I don't know about him paying you for your services... That just seems wrong.

Fifthly, selling stuff at the AH takes time. When you look at the price histories, always be sure to check the dates on the items recently sold. If something hasn't sold in a while, then chances are there isn't a big demand for it. For example, when I was camping Daggerclaw Draccos for his Sonic Knuckles, I found that they hadn't been purchased at the Windy AH in several months, but they were selling quite well at the Jeuno AH. Sometimes when you have items that just don't sell that quickly you will have to bite the bullet and just sell them to an NPC (near the AH in Windy, I like Nchaa's Good Goods to sell my wares to).

As far as overbidding is concerned... heheh... well, we all have to learn. My favorite one was when someone overbid my 500g bow and bought it for 15,000g! Now that was a happy break for me, I was freaking broke!
