Puppetmaster (PUP) or Mimic (MIM)

From the sounds of it, and all the details you are giving, it sounds more like a Mimic than a Puppet. I personally wasn't at the festival, so if they said its a Puppetmaster, then please disregard this message. But if they didn't actually use the words Puppet, Master, or any combination, then isn't it possible it could be a Mimic job?

And if not, wouldnt the mimic job be pretty cool? Like, create a shadow of the enemy you are fighting or something only a little weaker and have it copy the enemies fighting forms?

(Goblin vs Shadow Goblin and You) that kind of thing.

Puppetmaster is the actual title for the job. But you're right, it does sound a lot like a mimic that follows your every move.

Diamond and Slapstick

My Puppet has been casting Diamond and Slapstick around and the only instruction I gave him was 'Deploy'.

So I would say it is not a Mimic.

Funny, I was thinking the Puppet Master looked like more fun than the previous two! LOL!

Really it will all boil down to the player's mindset and what fighting efficiently in a party turns out to be like. RDMs (for instance) often get bored being REFRESH factories and give up on the job.

Actually, at first I thought the same thing... then I found out that PUP (PMS is my favorite acronym for it, but no one will ever use it I bet) collected their puppets as they progress.

Thus, I thought it'd be more like a SMN..

But then I saw the video footage of the PUP in action, and it seems to me that it will be something entirely different.

The puppet seems to follow your every move. You attack the mob, the puppet attacks. You sit down, the puppet sits down. You heal someone, the puppet heals someone.

Thus, this job may very well be the biggest wild card in the game. E.g., you will be able to combine it with many different subs and it will change your puppet accordingly.

SE has recently said they really don't like how people wind up being ferretted into choosing specific subjobs for most of the jobs in the game, and that they always intended people to have more flexibility in their subjob choices.

The more I find out about PUP, the more I suspect it probably was designed to be as subjob agnostic as it possibly can. Which, in and of itself, is a pretty cool thing.

...But if you look at the videos of it, you'll see it just mimics what you do. It doesn't do anything on it's own (like the NPC does).

This means it will just be.. well.. a puppet.

Now, I may be wrong here, I'm just saying what it *looks* like from the videos. We will ultimately have to wait and see.

THAT is a sweet looking job. Seems kind of beastmaster/summonersih to me, but it looks like it will be unique enough!

Alexander and Odin...wow. Anothe light and dark avatar. I wonder if Odin will be like in FF8 where he randomly appears during battle to kill off your enemy?

Odin is going to be a pain to defeat....I smell instant death attack coming....lol.
