Kicking your RSE

Kicking your RSE - Part II

So now you know the basics of RSE: You know what it is and generally how to get it. Now let's see if we can't go into some specifics of what you need to plan for before considering getting your RSE. Later on, we will look in depth at where you will be going and what you will be doing.

Guttrix and Fame

The level of your RSE will most likely be in the 28-35 range, so there is no need to really have it before then. Typically, you will actually want to be at least 35 in order to make getting your RSE easier (which means, don't try getting your RSE as a job that actually needs it).

Guttrix is located at H-10 inside Muckvix's Junk Shop in Lower Jeuno. Guttrix is a Goblin, and this is a Goblin shop (note: this is also the place you do the Gobbiebag quests). Guttrix is located in the back room of the shop (through the first door inside and down the hall).

I am not 100% certain the fame you need to have to perform this quest, but I can say you should be at least Rank 3. If you talk to Guttrix and he says "Scram, small fry!" or something similar it means you need more fame. If that is the case, go do more quests (all over the place, not just Jeuno). The general consensus online is that you need at least 40-50 quests completed before you can get this one.

When you obtain the quest

Once you have enough fame to get the quest, Guttrix will tell you that if you bring him a "Magical Pattern" he will make you special armor (your RSE). He will then tell you where the pattern is located for a given race and gender. The pattern will always be in one of three dungeons:

  • Gusgen Mines
  • Maze of Shakhrami
  • Ordelle Caves

He will say which dungeon it is in, and which race/gender it is for. So, for example, he may say that the pattern for "Female Elvaans" is in "Gusgen Mines". If you are not the appropriate race/gender, then you will not be able to obtain the pattern then.

This location, race/gender specification will last one week game-time (or 8 hours real-time). This means if it is your time, you will have an 8 hour window to go and obtain your pattern. At the end of the 8 hours, another location and race/gender will be up.

Getting your Pattern

To get your pattern, head out to the dungeon specified and obtain a chest key for the area (e.g. Gusgen Chest Key). You do this by killing specific enemies in the area. Take the chest key to one of the chests in the area. As long as it is your week, you will obtain a pattern. Return this pattern back to Guttrix to obtain an item of your RSE. Repeat this three more times to get all your RSE items.

Take special care when in these areas though: If it is not your week, then openning one of these chests will delay the chest respawn for someone else in the area who is looking for it to get their RSE. Openning the chest in a week that is not yours means you will get some other random item (granted, that item may be pretty cool) and will delay a chest respawn by at least 30 minutes. This means by openning a chest in these areas not during your week you are making it more difficult for others to get their RSE. Please be considerate ;-)

You can only hold one chest key and one pattern at a time. So you will have to head back to Guttrix after each pattern you get before you can get another.

Helping others

These areas will all be hard when you are at the levels when you want to start using your RSE. So it is best to head out there with others to help.

Generally speaking it is a good idea to team up with other people looking for the RSE and go out with them even if it isn't your week. That way, you can at least collect the key for when it is your week (so you dont have to search for the key the next time).
