hey guys this arbelast on athruns account heh:). Avayr and I is holding an Avatar run on Monday, Feb. 20th. We are doing all 6 so that means u need all 6 Major Tuning Forks by then. Whoever wants to help comment on this, I noe a couple of ppl that wants to go really badly. Timing should be important so feel free to tell wat time everyone is free. There is ppl that need to go to bed early soo i want to do this early.

Feb. 20, 2006 from 9:00 to 13

Feb. 20, 2006 from 9:00 to 13:00 (PST)
*Maintenance completion time may be subject to change.

So starts at Noon Eastern for four hours - the game should be available by 9PM Eastern/6PM Pacific (18:00 PST)

BAH

Tam, are you F*ing nuts?

Don't actually suggest starting at 9pm Eastern when they havent set a time yet :-P

I want to be able to get to bed in a reasonable hour.

No.

No. I am not nuts.

I am not suggesting anything - just pointing out when the game will LIKELY be available. Not my event, I am not coordinating, neither am I shooting it down. Just saying that maintenance ALMOST always gets extended, but the game is usually available on this size of patch by 9pm. For all I know it might not be available until 11pm, however.

And then there is the issue of peoples actually being able to install an update.

Took off calendar

Yeah, actually I took it off the calendar anyway (see my response to your other post).

update...

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/news/sdetail6971.html?story=6971

Anyone?

I guess Arb just post events (incomplete ones, as he never posted a time) and then never comes back to check them...

Has anyone talked to Arb/Avayr/Avatarx since this post and told them about the maintenance that night?

This event will have to be rescheduled.

Yes

Yes, we talked to Avatarx during our coffer-key hunt last night, but not about maintenance. Arbelast, Avayr and Avatarx are in loose communication - I am pretty sure we were the first to tell Avatarx of this thread. Some of the avatars require 3 or 4 SMN to defeat them, so Avatarx implied there was still a hunt going on for a couple more SMN.

I gather there can only be one avatar fight per Vana'diel day, but if you have three SMN go in and three with tuning forks (Key Item) you can get up to three scroll drops (sort of like 'Spirit Pack' but maybe key item?). So all of a sudden three folks have the Avatar after one fight.

It was my impression this event was going to happen for Avayr, just maybe not right away as there needed to be more communication and maybe it would not be a full party (coordinating with Clan can be tricky). Also the fight limitation, the dont-fight-avatar-on-his-strong-day, the need for more SMN - it really did not sound like a "let's go" kind of pick-up Event to me, seems like it requires more planning as a Clan Event than even Garrison.

It may well not even make for a good Clan Event.

Clan Events

If you check my links you see that the fights *could* be clan events, but certainly *not* the way Arb proposed.

The best thing for a clan event would be to set aside a couple of fights in one night and just take the people who showed up on a first serve basis.

So, as it stands now, I will be removing this from the 2 week calendar. If Avatarx/Arb/et al can get more communication between eachother it may work out. But since we don't yet have any real clear leadership for the event, I see no reason to keep it on the calendar.

pt

you can only have a pt in these fights....no alliance...

Slight oversight?

Although I suspect maintenance to be completed by 6PM EST( Clicky and read first line ) – you both should factor that into your plans. Simply put, if we do need to individual fights per SMN – there is no way in hell I can attend an event that starts late.

I will TRY to get my stupid ruby and forks this weekend, but I have limited play time and doubt I will be able to attend.

Good luck!

Doh!

Okay, maybe they will want to move the day. My vote, if it is at all possible, is for the following Friday or Weekend.

Time and links

First of all, what time will this be at? You posted a day, but did not post a time.

Second, here are some links for people out there who, like me, know very little about what we need to have prepared before the run. The one thing to bear in mind is that unless you have the quest(s) active you will not be able to join in the battles.

From what I understand you typically fight the Avatars on the day they are weak too. This means that, unless someone wants to chart out the days through next week, you should probably come prepared for all Avatar Prime battles.

I can't tell for certain from my research, but it does seem as though the Avatar battles are limitted to 6 people.

Those Naughty Questions

Yes, every one of these Events starts off with a brief suggestion - then runs smack into a snowdrift of Questions!

Is the limit a Party of six or an Alliance? What happens when ten folks with the full set of tuning forks show up? Does that mean all ten go inside and beat up on one poor Titan? Does one person (a trader) get the Avatar upon victory? Or do ten folks all get one rib from the corpse and that equals to one Avatar?

If ten folks show up, and you have to do ten fights, with five Avatars are we looking at fifty fights?

Questions. Questions. Endless Questions...

Fork Me

I would absolutely love to do these fights with you guys. My only problem is that not only am I on the west coast, but I also work late. The earliest I would be able to attend/show-up is 7pm MST. That would be 9pm for the east coast. If this time is far too late then I would really appreciate a weekend run also/instead. This is a great offer and I understand if you're not able to work with my schedule.

Time for events

Yes, as we have already shown in two previous polls (here is the first and here is the second), weekends are generally a much better time for events.

That being said, there are several people who cannot make them on the weekends. I think one of the people orchestrating this run may have a work conflict on the weekends (I'll admit I was only half paying attention to the discussion in LS chat last night as I was busy questing).

Hmm..

Maybe I'm speaking out of my arse here but, if you have a SMN @ 20, why not just do the mini-battles?

Again, if we do need to fight each avatar for each individual attending, perhaps it is much more realistic to expect one to two avatar fights (x4-x6) before the EST people log?

Why not do the mini-battles..

Because the mini-battles are freaking hard, that's why :-P

The mini-battles are level capped, and you have to solo them. They require a great deal of precision from what I've read and are very easy to flub up. Also, they may or may not be dependent on your race's strengths or limitations as a level 20 SMN (for example, it seems a Galka SMN would be at a disadvantage).

The prime fights are uncapped, and supposedly two knowledgable level 75 SMNs can solo them. Thus, you can drag 4 other people into them and get them their Avatars at the same time.

Vis Maior's Journeys
http://maior.samhart.net/

BUT...

But when you beat them it gives you a great sence of satification. you can proudly come on the LS and say "I owned (insert avatars name here) arse" and they are quite fun to do. Yes they are friggin hard but it is about the only thing you can solo in this game at lvl 20. But if you have someone like arbe and ava doing this for you and they can get 4 ppl through each one then I would say go for it.

AND a Galka SMN CAN do the lvl 20 battles cause all you have to have is 44 MP to do your 2 hr. and basically that is all the lvl 20 battles are is good timing and running like a scared bio-tch and praying to the unjust gods at SE to please let you live long enough to get your 3rd searing light off. (most of mine died on my 2nd searing light for some reason)
